My friend had to reconfirm his drivers license from abroad and pass both G1 and G2 exit road tests. He had the tests at Etobicoke test center (5555 Eglinton Ave West, Toronto). So, a couple of days before the test we went there and have been following at a distance the examiners with their drivers.
Below are the two itineraries for G1 exit road test (for G2 licence):
Route 1
- Exit the test centre on Eglinton Ave W (turn right)
- Turn left on Explorer Dr (that's the second road)
- Left on Matheson Blvd E
- Right on Shuttle Dr.; drive 50 meters ahead; make an emergency stop then 3-point turn
- Exit back on Matheson Blvd E - turn right
- Turn left on Orbitor Dr
- Right on Skymark Ave.
- Left on Satellite Dr.
- Right on Eglinton Ave W
- Enter the test center
Route 2
- Exit the test centre on Eglinton Ave W (turn right)
- Turn left on Explorer Dr (that's the second road)
- Left on Matheson Blvd E
- Right on Satellite Dr.
- Left on Solar Dr.; drive 50 meters ahead; make a 3-point turn; make an emergency stop
- Exit back on Satellite Dr - turn right
- Turn left on Matheson Blvd E
- Right on Orbitor Dr.
- Right on Skymark Ave.
- Left on Satellite Dr.
- Right on Eglinton Ave W
- Enter the test center
The itinerary for G2 exit road test (G license, with highway):
Route 1
- Exit the test centre on Eglinton Ave W (turn right)
- Drive to Renforth Dr - turn right
- Turn left on Eringare Dr.
- Turn right on Odessa Ave.; drive 50 meters ahead; make an emergency stop then 3-point turn (other examiners may ask you to turn on Beckwith Rd or Margrath Pl - they are all similar; one examiner even asked for an emergency stop on Eringate Dr.)
- Exit back on Eringate Dr then enter Higway 427
- Take the exit on Burnhamthorpe Rd; turn left on Burnhamthorpe East
- Take the first exit on Highway 427 North
- From Highway exit on Eglinton Ave West
- Turn right on Matheson Blvd E (other examiners will prefer you drive directly to the test centre)
- Turn right on Explorer Dr
- Right on Eglinton Ave W
- Enter the test center
Thanks for sharing this! I took the G2 exit road test on May 23rd 2015 and the route was still the one you described :)
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear that. Congratulations!
DeleteNo parallel parking at Etobicoke?
ReplyDeleteThere is. Parralel parking is on the parking lot before the road test. It's between two poles by the fence. There's enough space between the poles, even more than would've normally been between two cars in the real life.
DeleteWhat is the speed limit for the smaller streets for Matheson etc. I didn't see a sign. Can't be 70 like Eglinton could it?
ReplyDeleteNo, it can't be 70. If you don't see any sign, then keep 50 km/h. Unless otherwise posted the speed limit on Toronto and Mississauga streets is 50 Km/h.
DeleteI did this route for my first time doing my G2. I failed because apparently I was 'too slow'(I drove 45-50km/h in the areas you describe). Best bet would be to point it out during the test that you don't see a sign and that you'll drive at 50. I'm taking mine in about 4 days hopefully I pass this time around

DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteFor the g test, do they ask you to reverse park your car?
Thanks in advance
Hi. Not necessarily.
DeleteThanks a lot for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCould you please explain what is supposed to be done for an emergency stop (G2 exit) ?
The emergency stop is similar to pulling over the car onto the shoulder. The only difference is that you have to turn on the hazard lights. The procedure is as follows:
Delete1. Check the traffic before slowing down (mirrors).
2. Turn on your signal (right or left) before slowing down.
3. Steadily reduce speed as you approach the stop.
4. Stop parallel to the curb.
5. Turn off your signal and turn on your hazard lights.
6. Put the gear selector in park and set the parking brake.
The official and more detailed information is here: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/handbook/section6.6.0.shtml
Thank you so much!
DeleteHi I failed in my G test recently in Brampton. This time I am planning to give my test in Etobicoke. My question is what is an emergency parking? Is that really important? Be coz in Brampton they did not asked me that.
ReplyDeleteIn Etobicoke they ask you to do the emergency stop. See my previous response about the emergency stop steps.
DeleteWhen driving on the regular roads (not the highway) must we always stay in the right lane unless told otherwise?
DeleteFor example:
If we make a left turn at the lights and are in the left lane, should we immediately change lanes into the very right lane? For the G test
@Kimberly's question
DeleteI would like to know this as well, please!

ReplyDeleteI booked my road test here for august 11, i just failed earlier at VP and Lawrence
ReplyDeleteHi do they take in to residential areas
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI just had one question about parallel parking between the cones.
For when you pull up beside the cone, in your rear passenger side triangle window is the cone supposed to be seen in the middle, right edge or left edge of the rear passenger side triangle window?
If you could just answer that question, it would be a great help.
hi,
ReplyDeleteDo you guys know if the construction sign "50 speed limit" is only for the few blocks until the next regular sign that says "70" or if the construction sign over rules the regular one?
many thanks
Hi. That's right, the construction 50 km/h sign is only until the next 70 km/h sign.
ReplyDeletePlease, can you update the route? Everything has changed since Satellite is closed for construction work. Taking my exam at the end of Oct, wish me luck and thanks

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the routes. I'm taking the G2 exit test in a week.
Do you know if the route changed since you posted it?
Second, I'm jumping from G1 license to full G (past driving experience)- do you know how are the examiners towards people like me?
Hi Marija,
DeleteHave you already taken the test? Was the route different than the route described in the first post?
I am taking the test next week and hope you could help me with some advice.
Thank you
I'm having the test tomorrow. I'll let you know if anything is changed.
DeleteHi Vedran,
DeleteIt was the same, except on the way back she took me on Orbitor.
She was very on "checking the mirrors on 5 seconds". Make sure you drive the speed limit, not only not to go over, but not to go very much below.
I had that problem, for ex. Eglinton is 70kmh, I was little above 60 (but closer to 60 than 70). She said "this is 70 zone". I just acknowledged that. Same thing happened on the hwy, I don't know why i was driving little over 90! She said again "this is 100 zone".
Oh, when I was on Mathesson turning left on Orbitor, I had to wait for a truck to go first. As I was waiting the signal turned yellow and there was another car coming in and I wasn't sure if it's going to stop or go through yellow sign, so I waited like 2 sec. and when I saw the car slowing down, I turned. I thought for sure she would fail me.
She didn't , I passed!
Oh, you have show confidence especially on hwy.
What time is your test?
I saw several examiners- more women than men. Mine was a short little lady with a strict face and long hair (in her 40's). She didn't talk except for giving directions. I tried at the begining to see if she would talk, but she wasn't intrested in that, so I didn't push it. The women were in their 40's, they all looked very serious.
The men were of different age. There was one guy, younger, he seemed like approachable, talkative guy.
Hi Marija. Congratulation on your full G driver's licence!
DeleteI had my test yesterday too, and I passed :-)
It was pretty much like you described, and the route was very similar (Mathesson and Orbitor at the end).
Anyway, thank you for your advices, I am sure they will be helpful to other people who will be taking the test.
I think I had the woman you're speaking about, she was very strict. Failed me for a very minimal thing (was below speed limit for about 10 seconds. I was driving 60 in a 70). Only did this because traffic was heavy and the light up ahead was red so I stopped accelerating. I remember her randomly screaming "It's a 70 Zone!". It startled me for a second and I was confused as to why she was so loud as if we were about to get into an accident. I thought I had passed but when she told me I failed I was surprised. Even on the checkmark sheet I have about 3 minor mistakes all together. Hopefully I get someone else this time around

ReplyDeleteFor after emergency stop, do we speed up on side road, or merge into the road first and speed up?
ReplyDeleteHi to all,
ReplyDeleteI am booked for etobicoke for my G.
I never been there, So, I would be appreciated if anyone know me the speed limit for drivetest route.
I know if it is posted then follow the same and highway 100.
Maybe my reply is little bit late.
DeleteI'd suggest you go there after hours and test drive around the area.
Eglinton is 70 (except around the construction area- 50), side streets 50 I think.
When driving on the regular roads (not the highway) must we always stay in the right lane unless told otherwise?

Hi Kimberley, Hve you completed your G test?
DeleteGentlemen, what is the speed limit of the streets for the G test?
ReplyDeleteRenforth, Eringare, Odessa, etc?
For G 1 exit test do they ask for reverse parking? And what should be the speed between the 'construction sign' and the '50km' speed sign on Eglinton Ave W? Because 50km speed sign is not there for all through the construction area
ReplyDeleteFor Eglinton is 70, around construction site 50.
DeleteHi I am just curious in regards to the emergency stop and where they asked you to do it, and what you did etc? Also how it was on the highway! Thanks
ReplyDeletei failed my road test today :(

ReplyDeleteThanks In Advance
We are Going this Saturday!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you pass? Where they harsh?
DeleteI have my G1 exit test this afternoon. Will update on route/examiner.
ReplyDeletehey what happened to your test?any update on route?
DeleteHi I am taking my g1 exit test soon. Can anyone update if the route has changed or not. are they still asking for the emergency stop?
ReplyDeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteQuestions regarding the test route, while taking the exit on Burnhamthorpe Rd; turn left on Burnhamthorpe East, which lane we need to be while turning the second lane from the left or take the very left lane, before taking the first exit on Highway 427 North

DeleteI was driving along the G2 Exit test route from the centre, I'd made a right on to Eglinton Ave and was driving towards Renforth at 70km/h and I came across an orange 50km/h sign so I slowed down to 50 but then literally less then 10m ahead there is a 70km/h sign..
ReplyDeleteI would assume I go 70km/h till I see the 50km/h sign and then go right back up to 70km/h? Even though they are like right behind one another :S
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletesame question!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure but I think we go 50km/h once we "enter the construction zone" and continue on 50km/h until the "end of construction zone" sign appears ignoring all other speed signs btwn the construction zone.
ReplyDeletePlease correct me if I'm wrong!!
I did my test today but I didn't pass :(, made some stupid mistakes... Once you saw the orange construction zone sign that says 50km/h, you should keep on 50 until you see another sign that says end of construction zone, otherwise ignore all the white speed limit sign, only keep on 50, or the examiner will tell you that you are speeding.

ReplyDeleteFor example:

You should be normally driving on the right lane. After the left turn, you can change the lane when it's safe. According to MTO Driver's Handbook you should "Get into the habit of driving in the right lane, leaving the other lanes clear for passing."
DeleteThanks so much ! Another question, what is the proper way to switch lanes? (Rear, Side, Signal, Rear, Side, Blind Spot, Switch) ... is that correct?
DeleteAnother question is what is the "proper" way of parallel parking?

I booked my driving test in etobicoke on July 7 I want to know at what speed I should merge on highway 427
ReplyDeleteI believe it would be 100 unless traffic is moving faster than that ... then you would adjust to the speed of traffic

ReplyDeleteFor the G1 exit
DeleteFor the G1 exit
DeleteFor g1 exit test, are pilons used here? Or do we park normally between two real cars. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou park between to cones on the test centre parking lot.
DeleteThis was my route for my G test today which I passed.
ReplyDeleteBefore leaving the test centre, I was asked to parallel park in the generous space between two cones.
1 Exit the test centre on Eglinton Ave W (turn right)
2 Drive to Renforth Dr - turn right
3 Turn left on Eringare Dr.
4 Turn right on Odessa Ave.; drive 50 meters ahead; make an emergency stop then 3-point turn (other examiners may ask you to turn on Beckwith Rd or Margrath Pl - they are all similar; one examiner even asked for an emergency stop on Eringate Dr.)
5 Exit back on Eringate Dr then enter Higway 427
6 Take the exit on Burnhamthorpe Rd; turn left on Burnhamthorpe East
7 Take the first entrance onto Highway 427 North
8 From Highway 427 North, exit onto Eglinton Ave West
9 Turn right on Matheson Blvd E (other examiners will prefer you drive directly to the test centre)
10 Left on Orbitor
11 Right onto Eglinton Ave West
12 Left into Drive Test Centre
There was construction everywhere but only one sign that I saw saying 50km/h which was actually lying on its side, he said it was not posted. The examiner asked me to speed up as it was a 70 zone. This was along Eglinton leaving the test centre. I highly advice anyone doing the test to go at least an hour and a half before and drive the route one or two times and do exactly the route I listed above. This will help you be aware of the area and the posted speed limits. Best of luck!
If I was taught to paralell park between cars, what guidlines should I follow for parking between cones?
DeleteThanks, ocram1995, for taking time and giving a detailed description. Congratulations for passing the test!
DeleteNot sure if you saw the same sign on it's side or if it's a different one but there is a 50km/h sign, one light before Renforth when you exit the test centre and go down Eglington.
DeleteSince there is no construction zone sign here do you proceed normally at 70km/h and then slow down to 50km/h and pick back up to 70km/h?
Any tips on getting up to 100 on that second curved ramp? It just seems like everything in the car swings around but if you accelerate too late then you merge going 80.
ReplyDeleteYou need to press your gas really well to get the speed when entering Hwy 27 from Eringate, especially when you do not have vehicles in-front of you. And make sure that you stay in the inner left turn line when you exit to Burnhamthorpe rd because you have to immediately re-enter the highway on right. And when you exit Eglington West make sure that you slow down to 30 hmh, that will be challenging too. On Eglington west after getting off highway you need to maintain 50 kmh.
ReplyDeleteHi I have a G2 test this friday 22nd and I was wondering on Suttle Dr. you have a emergency stop but there are plates saying no parking and fire hydrants and entrance to the building does anyone know where exactly on Suttle dr should you do the roadside stop/emergency ?
ReplyDeleteHi, I had my full G test today and the route was the same as described by ocram1995 on July 8, 2016. (see above). I passed the test. I drove 70 km/h on Eglinton before I saw a sign on an orange background posting 50 km/h. After that sign, I drove 50 km/h before I made a right turn to Renforth Dr.
ReplyDeleteAlso, just a reminder, do not forget to change lane to right after you make a left turn. You do not need to confirm it with an examiner, just move to right lane

Can anyone tell me if the route is still the same for g1 exit test?
ReplyDeleteTook my G2 test (G1 exit test) today and the route is different from what's in this post.
ReplyDelete1. Exit the test center on Eglinton Ave (turn right)
2. Go straight through Eglinton Ave/Satellite Dr intersection
3. Turn left on Orbitor Dr -- examiner will tell you to turn left on the next intersection so you should do lane change on your own
3. Go straight through Skymark Ave/Orbitor Dr intersection (all-way stop)
4. Turn left on Matheson Blvd -- same note as #3
5. Turn right on Satellite Dr
6. Turn left on Solar Dr
7. Stop and do uphill/downhill parking
8. Do 3-point turn
9. Turn right on Satellite Dr -- normal stop sign
10. Turn right on Matheson Blvd
11. Turn left on Spectrum Way -- same note as #3
12. Go straight through Eglinton Ave/Rakely Ct
13. Turn left back to the drive test centre
Hope this helps!
Any parking?
Deletewell explained and very informative post..thank you for sharing with us..

Thanks for sharing this information. Would be useful for fellow drivers and probably driving instructors as well :). You guys are clever.
ReplyDeleteBTW, here are some quick tips for new drivers: https://safe2drive.ca/common-mistakes-driving-test.html
Might be somewhat useful.
Just did my test today. The route is the same that Blitzbeat described above. Note that the speed is 60 km/h. Make sure you know your laws of bicycle lanes. How to merge with them. Other than that the test was easy. I did parallel park in the beginning and then front end park in the end. Before starting the test I reversed into a spot.
ReplyDeleteDid you have to reverse in front of an examiner at all?
Deletetook my test today, I failed. The examiners are keen on checking your blind spot at every given turn and lane change. There are quite a bit of necessary lane changes during the test. My examiner specifically was quite strict about speed. I was 4 below on Mathewson (60 zone) and on my sheet I was penalized for not going fast enough. The pylons are set up a little funky in accordance to the parking lot. Where you must park your car is in a weird position when getting into parallel parking as you are not driving straight to the desired pylons but you must turn and then reverse closer to the pylons. I saw some do parking after and some before, going into parallel parking I think it would be easier to do it after. Also I was instructed to pull over and preform an emergency downhill stop, therefore knowing which way your wheels go is key. Apparently I was in the wrong vehicle position during this which still to this day I'm not sure what I did wrong. But good luck, I will say the parking lot situation is much more open and spread out than Oakville and at the Oakville location you must reverse park and at the Etobicoke location you parallel.

ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what the speeds are for all the streets for the G2 test (G1 exit test). Are the smaller streets 50km/h? What's the speed when we just turn out of the test centre onto eglinton? There's no speed sign until later on
ReplyDeleteHi I'm going for my g2 tomorrow at etobicoke I'm so worry I thinking to cancel because bad reviews I'm going to orangeville plz entiende one go there
ReplyDeleteAny help for g2 on etobicoke ?

Hi guys! Thanks for this! Has anyone taken it in 2018, any ideas if the G1 test is still the same?
ReplyDeletedid it today... same route as blitzbeat said.
ReplyDeleteFailed before I even exited eglington because of the tricky stop sign getting out of the parking lot right after the curve.
